Bid to smuggle tea, cloth foiled

KOHAT, Oct 29: An attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of green tea and foreign cloth from Peshawar into Kohat was foiled and the owner of the consignment was arrested.

The consignment was discovered during a routine checking near Hangu railway crossing from a truck number E-9854. The police seized 30 bags containing 1,100kg of green tea, 9,000 yards of foreign cloth, 8,000 safety pins and 60 bags of tin plates.

The consignment was purchased in Bara, Khyber Agency and was to be delivered to a whole sale dealer in Kohat, the police said. The police also arrested the owner of the consignment, Gul Kareem, resident of Parachinar and driver Mir Zaman of Peshawar and registered a case against them.
