KARACHI, Oct 29: The additional district and sessions judge, East, Rasheed A. Soomro, sentenced, on Monday, a man to 14-year term for raping a minor girl.

Accused Zafar Hiyat had sexually assaulted a four-year-old daughter of his neighbour after taking her to his house on December 1, 1998.

ACQUITTED: The additional district and sessions judge, West, Ms Nasim Mansoor, acquitted a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a murder case.

The judge exonerated accused Muhammed Akran of the charge of murdering a woman in 1997 within the limits of the Orangi Town police as the prosecution failed to bring on record any incriminating evidence against him.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, East, Syed Kauser Ali Shah Bukhari, acquitted two Muttahida workers in a case pertaining to violent activities and rioting.

Accused Muhammed Shafique alias Azadi, a party’s unit in- charge in Saudabad, and Jameel Rab, were acquitted in the case, registered by the Saudabad police on November 9, 1997, as the prosecution could not bring sufficient evidence against them.

KIDNAPPING: An Anti-terrorism court acquitted three men in a kidnapping-for-ransom case.

Judge Abdul Hameed Abro of ATC-2 exonerated accused Ustad Hazrat Nabi, Daro Khan Durrani and Muhammed Ijaz Khan of the charges as the prosecution could not prove its case against them.

The three were prosecuted for kidnapping Iqbal Hussain Agha on September 14, 1998, in Mithadar. They allegedly demanded Rs60 million for the release of the hostage.
