D.I. Khan alliance face break-up

Published October 29, 2001

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 28: Cracks have appeared in the recent Alkizai-Miankhels alliance which was established for local government elections.

Three tehsil Nazims have joined their hands against the district Nazim to herald a change at the top. Miankhels, who have a vast experience in contrivance, have now established their contacts with their old political rivals Gandapurs from Kulachi.

As Makhdooms of Bilot Sharif are the strong allies of Gandapurs, Miankhels are much stronger than ever enjoying complete support of both Gandapurs and Makhdooms.

Through this new alliance with three tehsil Nazims Fatehullah Khan Miankhel from Dera Ismail Khan tehsil, Makhdoomzada Altaf Hussain from Paharpur tehsil and Sardar Israrullah Khan Gandapur from Kulachi tehsil, a coup is expected against district Nazim Maj Latifullah Khan Alizai.

A meeting of three tehsil Nazims was held at Makhdoom House the other day. Former provincial ministers Sanaullah Khan Miankhel (elder brother of Fatehullah Khan Miankhel, tehsil Nazim Dera Ismail Khan), Makhdoomzada Murid Kazim Shah (elder brother of Makhdoomzada Altaf Hussain, tehsil Nazim Paharpur), Sardar Ikramullah Khan Gandapur (elder brother of Sardar Israrullah Khan Gandapur, tehsil Nazim Kulachi), Malik Fateh Sher, Nazim union council Mandhra, Iftikhar Salim Advocate, Nazim union council Dera Deehat and Makhdoomzada Zilul Hasnain Shah, younger brother of Altaf Hussain Shah also attended the meeting.

Various issues including non-judicious distribution of development funds, one-sided nominations in different sub-committees of district council and unjustified transfers/adjustments in education/health departments without consulting the respective Nazim/councillors and ignoring the allies, were discussed at length.

It was decided not to cooperate with district Nazim in his “unlawful decisions”. Latifullah Khan would now have to face an enlarged opposition as a result.
