Niaz Stadium in pathetic condition

Published October 28, 2001

HYDERABAD, Oct 27: The poor condition of Niaz Stadium has once again resulted in cancellation of a Patron ‘s trophy match between ABL and KRL on Saturday.

The fate of a second match scheduled for Nov 2 is also uncertain as the condition of the ground is deteriorating rapidly with the authorities concerned turning a blind eye to the second international cricket centre of the province.

Recently the matches of Grade-II were played at the stadium. The last match was played between Nawabshah and Larkana that concluded last week.

The umpires, Javed Yusuf Qamar and Rafique, who had supervised the last match, were visibly upset to see the pathetic condition of the ground, its outfield and dressing rooms.

The grass of the outfield was not mowed with the result that it has grown upto six to seven feet. There were no lights in the dressing rooms and water was also not available.

The bells were also found broken and the outfield was not even, rather bumpy at places. The officials of Nawabshah and Larkana teams were also seen complaining that they were not provided any guidance by the host, District Cricket Association.

The umpires could not hide their displeasure and discussed ground’s poor condition with some journalists as well and said that they would send a report to cricket authorities. Before the introduction of devolution plan of government Niaz Stadium was being looked after by the defunct Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which has now been bifurcated in into three parts - City Taluka, Latifabad Taluka and Qasimabad Taluka Councils. And now the ground falls in territorial jurisdiction of Taluka Council Qasimabad.

The Stadium has never been in good shape,as compared to other venues of the country country as the officials concerned have been negligent in their duties.
