RAWALPINDI, Oct 27: The All Jammu and Kashmir Youth Council on Saturday organized a sit-in of 27 Kashmiri groups outside the office of United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) near the Ayub National Park.
The demonstrators chanted slogans for the liberation of Kashmir as the organizers presented a memorandum to UN officers, reiterating the Kashmiri people’s just cause and condemning the Indian troops’ oppression of people in the occupied Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Kashmiri leaders emphasized that a state belonged to its inhabitants. They said there was a difference between terrorism and freedom-struggle. The Kashmiri people are fighting for their inalienable right of self- determination, which had been granted to them under the UN charter, they observed.
The speakers were unanimous on the point that sacrifices of Kashmiris would eventually make their campaign successful. They condemned the Indian reign of terror in the held state.
Later, the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.
PPI ADDS: Kashmiris, led by opposition leader in Azad Kashmir legislative assembly and AJK chief of Pakistan People’s Party Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry held a demonstration in front of the United Nations Military Observer office.
The protesters urged the United Nations to help resolve the Kashmir problem.
Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Sultan said Indian troops invaded Kashmir on October 27, 1947 and it had been involved in worst kind of terrorism for the last over 50 years. He said the ongoing freedom movement in occupied Kashmir was the reaction to the Indian aggression.
Me Mehmood said there was no military solution to the issue, adding only the UN resolutions were the best way to resolve the problem. He said the threat of nuclear war between the two countries would be removed if the issue was resolved.
Barrister Sultan said India tried to exploit the conditions of the recent situation and to declare Pakistan a terrorist state, but after its failure in all propaganda, it lost its senses and increased atrocities across the Line of Control. He said Kashmiris would soon get their right of self-determination.
Members of AJK Legislative Assembly Raja Mohammad Khan, Maulana Abdul Razzak, Sahibzada Zulfiqar, Khawaja Ijaz Bashir, Wajid Mughal, Ishaq Chaudhry, Soofi Mir Alam and Zahida Aslam also spoke on the occasion.
Later, Barrister Sultan presented a memorandum to the representative of UN military observer office.
