TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 26: Police on Friday claim to have arrested eight members of a 13-man inter-district dacoits’ gang, including two women.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday, SP Amer Zulfiqar said the gang was also involved in killing seven persons during strikes.
He said police had also recovered arms and a huge quantity of heroin worth millions of rupees from their possession.
He said dacoits — Ashiq Hussain, Ashraf, Bashir Ahmad, Siddique, Aslam, Sakina Bibi and Sharifan Bibi — were arrested from Kamalia area while Shaukat Munir was held by Shahdara police, Lahore.
The SP said they had committed 38 dacoities, including 20 in Okara, four in Kasur, three in Ghotki (Sindh) and two each in Vehari, Pakpattan and Toba Tek Singh districts.
He said Shaukat had confesed to killing 10 persons during dacoity strikes in the past 11 years.
The SP revealed the gang had used women to obtain bails of male members from courts.
UPLIFT PROJECTS: A sum of Rs163 million will be spent on the uplift schemes in the district under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP) and Social Action Programme (SAP).
This was stated by District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq while presiding over a meeting of the district advisory committee.
He said Rs10 million each would be incurred on development schemes in Kamalia and Gojra towns, and Rs5 million on the expansion of sewerage system in Toba Tek Singh.
At least one classroom, he said, would be constructed in each shelterless school across the district. The meeting also approved Rs6 million for the purchase of sewerage sucking machine.
He said a dispensary would be set up near Kamalia railway station besides completing the under-construction building of the Kamalia THQ Hospital.
Nazims of all three tehsils — Kamalia, Gojra and Toba — attended the meeting.
