ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: United Nations secretary-general’s special representative on Afghanistan Lakhdar Brahimi will arrive here on Saturday.

The foreign office spokesman Riaz Mohammad Khan on Friday informed journalists that Mr Brahimi’s visit to this region is in connection with the ongoing UN efforts to promote broad- based government in Afghanistan.

On Thursday Kamal Hossain, UN’s special rapporteur on Afghanistan told a news briefing that Mr Brahimi is coming here to look after the humanitarian work for Afghan refugees and initiate preparations for their rehabilitation.

Mr Kamal said that the Afghans should have the right to exercise their right to form a broad-based government in Afghanistan.

He appealed to countries other than the neighbours to share the burden of the huge influx of Afghan refugees.—APP
