KARACHI, Oct 25: The City Price Control Committee, which met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of the District Coordination Officer Karachi and Controller General Prices, Shafiqur Rahman Paracha, decided to formulate a package of prices of essential commodities for the month of Ramazan.

The package would be finalized jointly by the traders, representatives of consumers and officials concerned of the city government. The meeting was attended by Soofi Ikram, Fareed Qureshi, Anees Majid, Zulfiqar Ali and office- bearers of different associations of retailers and wholesalers who assured the government of their cooperation in this respect.

It was decided that meetings with traders of different commodities would be held separately before the start of Ramazan to fix the prices of kitchen items and other commodities at such a level as could offer relief to the consumers. Special attention would be paid to price stability in respect of wheat flour, sugar, red chillies, dates, pulses etc.

The meeting decided that the department of investment promotion of the city government would take steps for stabilizing prices with the cooperation of associations of retail and wholesale traders. Prices of fruits and vegetables would be advertised daily through radio and newspapers.

The DCO directed the executive district officer of the department of enterprises & investment promotion to take initiatives in respect of keeping prices at a stable level before the advent of Ramazan, and representatives of consumers and NGOs also be involved in this process.—PPI
