PESHAWAR, Oct 23: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Tuesday announced the establishment of a sports stadium in Khyber Agency.

Talking to the members of Fata cricket team which called on him at the Governor’s House, he said that despite lack of infrastructure, the tribal areas produced “quality players”, which was a proof that the area had no dearth of talent but it needed proper coaching and training.

He said the access of every individual or areas to the stadium should be facilitated.

He suggested the constitution of an association for looking after the stadium. NWFP Sports Minister Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani was also present.

The  governor said his government believed in the supremacy of merit.

He said there was a transparent mechanism for making it to the national team and neither was there a back-door arrangement nor it would be supported.

He said the ills and malpractice were prevalent in the system because of nepotism and favoritism, that deprived the deserving of their rights. He said the government was determined to root out the negative practices and it would discourage all attempts which might promote wrong trends.

Iftikhar Shah advised the sportsmen to concentrate on education as well.

He said the government was all out to bring transparency in all sectors. It will ensure supremacy of law, protect the rights of individuals and encourage the people to show the level of their potentials and capabilities. He gave away cash prizes to the sportsmen for their performance.
