US denies Taliban claim

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: The Taliban claimed their first kills on Monday in their war with the United States, showing off what they said was the wreckage of one downed US helicopter and claiming they had shot down another.

A Pentagon spokesman immediately rejected the reports.

“The Taliban lie,” said the spokesman, Lt Col Steve Campbell. “We are not going to comment each and every report that comes out of the region.”

Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television aired pictures of landing gear, tyres, metallic pieces and a large casing stamped with the words “Boeing” and “Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.”—AFP
