Another bad day for Kiwis
CANBERRA, Oct 22: New Zealand had another bad day in the field on the second day of their three-day tour match against an Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Invitational XI Monday.
The ACT made a commanding 439 for six declared in their first innings before New Zealand reached 133 for one at the close of play.
Despite losing the wicket of Jack Smith (156) shortly after play resumed, the ACT batsmen dominated the New Zealand bowling throughout the day with Grant Lambert scoring 101.
New Zealand then made a steady start to their first innings with Matthew Bell (44 not out) and Mathew Sinclair (51 not out) still at the crease.
New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori watched the game from the stands after twisting his ankle on Sunday while fielding a ball off his own bowling.
Vettori’s tour remains in doubt while he waits for the results of an MRI scan.
“We’ll know more tonight whether it is in the serious category or not. I just hope that it’s not. It could well be that he’s playing in the first Test.” New Zealand manager Jeff Crowe said.
