KHAIRPUR, Oct 16: Cotton growers of Khairpur and its border district Nawabshah, have criticized the cotton ginners for offering them low prices of Phutti (seed cotton).

Talking to this correspondent, the growers said cotton production had decrease compared to last year while they had spent more money on cotton cultivation this year due to shortage of water.

Despite that, they said that the ginners were paying less price i.e. Rs650 per 40kg for Phutti whereas the government had fixed minimum rate of Rs780.

The growers also complained that the cotton picking season was in full swing but the ginners were avoiding to purchase Phutti.

The growers have expressed concern on the decreasing market of cotton and appealed to the government to ensure the purchase of cotton at the prescribed rates.

WATER SHORTAGE: The growers of Nara canal of district Khairpur continued their protest on Tuesday against Nara irrigation authorities for not providing water to the lower part of the canal according to rotation programme.

The rotation programme was chalked out for Siadae Pettan minor, Chundko minor, Dadu minor, Mumtaz minor, Dholowaro minor, Kathar minor, Tajal minors and others but water is not being provided to these channels according to the programme due to which crops are likely to be affected, they complained.
