FAISALABAD, Oct 16: A Nazim, his son, two gunmen and driver were shot dead allegedly by rivals near Gatwala on the Faisalabad-Sheikhupura Road, 13km from here, on Tuesday.
Rana Tanvir Ahmad, 49, the Nazim of Union Council No 7 of Chak Jhumra tehsil, along with his son, Sajjad Hyder, gunmen Iqbal and Sharif and driver Saifullah was going by a car. Near Gatwala, some masked men also riding a car intercepted them and sprayed their car with bullets. All the car occupants sustained critical injuries and were taken to the Allied Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Saddar police have registered a case against Rana Asghar, Imran Asghar, Afzal Dhiloon, Rana Nawaz, Tahir Bashir and Fateh Bashir on the report of the father of Tanvir.
According to family sources, over a dozen persons have, so far, been murdered over the enmity between Rana Asghar and Rana Tanvir groups.
ARRESTED: Police claim to have arrested 153 proclaimed offenders, 57 court absconders and 11 military deserters during a special campaign last month.
Police also claim having recovered some 336 illegal weapons, including one Kalashnikov, 105 guns, 42 rifles, 108 pistols, 34 revolvers, 17 mausers and 28 carbines.
DEATH FOR KILLERS: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday awarded death sentence on two counts and 40-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs300,000 each to two convicts in a dacoity-cum-murder case.
Bilal and Imran were also ordered to pay Rs100,000 each as compensation. They will have to undergo another 12.5-year rigorous imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine.
According to the prosecution, the two convicts had shot dead a taxi driver, Abdul Jabbar, on Samundri Road about one year ago.
MURDERED: A villager was murdered allegedly by some cattle-lifters in Chak 55-JB, Nishatabad, on Tuesday.
Rehmat Ali, 50, was sitting in his fields when some unidentified persons killed him and made off with two buffaloes and a cow.
Police are investigating.
