HYDERABAD, Oct 16: Sindh PPP President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has strongly opposed the exodus of Afghan refugees into Pakistan on the ground that it would result in innumerable problems not only for the Sindh province but for the country as well, and added that the Afghan displaced people would pose a serious threat to the country in the near future.
He was speaking at a function organized by the Sindh People’s Youth and Cultural Organization at a local hotel late on Monday night.
Calling upon the government to take drastic measures to check the influx of Afghan refugees, Mr Khuhro urged the landlords, businessmen, and people from a cross-section of society to refrain from providing different facilities in the shape of jobs and shelter to these people in Sindh.
He feared that these people would affect the working of the government functionaries in various ways.
Mr Khuhro pointed out that it was to the disadvantage of our country that under the existing circumstances it was being governed by the army.
He said that the government had decided to take those decisions which were taken by the PPP government 22 years back.
He maintained that his party was indulging in “politics of liberalism” in the larger interest of the people and the country.
He was of the opinion that politics of the country should be separated and kept away from the economy and religion.
He condemned the Sept 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
Mr Khuhro said that his party was not in favour of genocide of innocent people whether in Palestine, Kashmir, and Afghanistan.
The senior vice president of the PPP, Sindh, Qazi Asad Abid announced an award for press photographers and journalists on behalf of the Qazi Abdul Majeed Abid Memorial Society.
The president, Hyderabad City Sindh People’s Youth and Cultural Organization (SPYCO), Roshan Ali Solangi, also spoke on the occasion.
Mr Khuhro gave away awards to press photographers Ali Wahid, Akhtar Pirzada, and Akram Shahid on behalf of SPYCO.
