KARACHI: Architects urged to assist in uplift plans


KARACHI, Oct 15: Architect and planner Arif Hassan has urged the professionals to come forward and assist the communities that are working in their respective areas on self-help basis for bringing about improvements in the living conditions of the people.

He was delivering his key-note address at a seminar on “Architecture and Development” held under the auspices of the NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi.

Arif Hassan was of the view that help from professionals to such communities would contribute towards bringing about a great deal of improvements in society.

He also apprised the audience about the field work that has been carried out by the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP).

Arif Hassan informed that the work based on OPP’s experiences has spread to as many as seven cities in the country such as Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Lodhran, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Ooch Sharif and Mangora.

Vice-Chancellor of NED University, Engr. Abul Kalam, who presided over the seminar. Chairman of the Architecture and Planning Department, NED University, Noman Ahmed, presented the welcome address.

The seminar was held in connection with the silver jubilee celebrations of the NED University.—APP
