KARACHI, Oct 14: Karachi Transport Federation has sounded a note of warning to the government to observe a complete wheel-jam strike in Sindh and Balochistan on Oct 19, if it does not reduce the price of petroleum products forthwith.
In a press release on Sunday, it said that prices of petroleum products in the international market have nose-dived from $29 per barrel to $19 per barrel. In view of the same, there can now be no justification by the government to persist with the same POL prices in the country.
The pathetic attitude of the government to redress grievances of transporters and the manifold increase in spare parts and tires and tubes of vehicles has virtually made it impossible for a majority of owners of public vehicles to continue their business,” it said.
The present government, during its tenure, has increased the price of petroleum products not less than 12 times which comes to 70pc increase,” it added.
It also demanded that the government immediately rescind the ban on the sale of old spare parts in Sindh, as the rest of the three provinces are exempted.—PPI
