PESHAWAR, Oct 13: The NWFP governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that nobody will be allowed to disrupt the peace and tranquillity in the province as maintenance of law and order is the top priority of the government.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the governor said that protection to life and property of citizens was the prime duty of the state which will be carried out by the government “by employing every possible measure.”
He said that he was happy that the people’s majority had kept themselves at a distance from the current spate of agitational and protest demonstrations “staged by a handful elements,” who, he claimed, “were out to disrupt the peace for their vested interests.” This, he said, indicated that the majority of the people had fully supported the government policies, he added.
He made reference to the incidents of violence that erupted the other day in Hangu, inflicting damage to the public and private property and at Sakhakot which claimed the life of a levy Jawan on Friday.
He expressed his grief over these acts of violence and declared that every possible effort was being made to prevent such deplorable acts in future and vowed that the culprits will be brought to justice.
The governor was of the view that only our enemies could extract benefits from such acts of violence and those who were out to create chaos should understand this reality that by indulging in such acts of disruption they were serving the cause of the enemy.
He warned that the current situation demanded immense care as the enemies of the country were bent upon dragging Pakistan into the turmoil to achieve their nefarious designs.
