HYDERABAD, Oct 10: Reacting to the allegations levelled by the students of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, during the protest demonstration here on Tuesday, the university authorities have clarified to facilitate the students of 1998 and 2000 batches, the academic council of the MUET at its 49th meeting held on September 19 had relaxed the promotion rules.
A spokesman of the university said for the 1998 batch first year, the condition of hundred per cent passed subjects had been relaxed to 70 per cent while concession was also given to the second year students of this batch as well as the students of 2000 batch.
He said the demand to abolish the term back policy was totally unjust.
About the cancellation of admission of student leader Khalid Mirani, the spokesman clarified his admission was not cancelled due to term back policy but because of his misconduct on the recommendations of the disciplinary committee of the university.
He said Mirani had manhandled students, was spreading harassment among and extorting money from the students, and was involved in other dubious activities. The spokesman added the appeal filed by Mirani for restoration of his admission had also been rejected by the university syndicate.
About the cancellation of admission of another student leader Khehar Ansari, the university spokesman said his admission had been cancelled because he had remained absent for more than two consecutive years.
He, however, said his appeal for restoration of admission was pending with the committee appointed by the academic council.
About 75 per cent attendance, the spokesman said this rule had been in vogue since two years and it had also been challenged by the students in the Sindh High Court but the court had also rejected the demand of the students.
About the increase in fees, he said keeping in view the financial constraints of the university and in accordance with government instructions, ten per cent increase in fees per year was legal.
RESULT: Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro has announced the result of BE, second term, second year (99- batch) Computer System and Software Engineering regular examination under external examiners system held in April.
Yasir Rehman son of Abdur Rehman Arian (seat No. 5) has secured first position while Abdul Waheed s/o Misri Memon (seat No. 28) and Ms. Tayyaba Tariq daughter of S. Mohammad Tariq Syed (seat No. 8) have secured second and third positions respectively.
The university has also announced the result of BE first term, third year (98 batch) Mining Engineering regular examination held in April/May and BE first term, third year (98-batch) Metallurgy and Materials Engineering regular examination held in April/May.
