KARACHI: Navy officer, youth killed

KARACHI Oct 10: An officer of the Pakistan Navy was shot dead by unknown armed men in his apartment in Site on Wednesday night.

Police said Zafar, 36 was shot dead by unknown armed men who barged into his apartment in Labour Square and opened fire at him and escaped.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where was pronounced dead.

Police said that the victim was was posted at PNS Dilawar as a petty officer. Police said personal enmity might be a possible motive behind the killing.

YOUNG MAN KILLED: A young man was shot dead by bandits in Quaidabad on late Tuesday night.

Police said that Azeem, 25, was asleep in his house in Quaidabad on late Tuesday night when some armed men sneaked into his house. The bandits collected goods and were escaping when Azeem woke up and raised an alarm. The bandits became jittery and opened fire at him and escaped.

The victim was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

In another incident in the same police limits, Shahzad, 24, was wounded when dacoits opened fire on him in a robbery attempt.

TAXI DRIVER: A taxi driver was shot and wounded by the car-jackers when he resisted them in Husainabad in Liaquatabad.

Initial reports said two armed men intercepted the taxi and asked the driver to get down from the cab. When he offered resistance, they opened fire on him and escaped.

JEWELLER: President of the Hydri Jewellery Market Association, Syed Mumtaz Ali, 45, was wounded, when some unidentified men opened fire at him on Sharshah Suri Road on Wednesday night.

Police said Mumtaz Ali was coming out from the market, and when he reached near the Hydri bus stop in his car, he was fired upon by unknown armed men riding a motorcycle.

The victim was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Hospital sources said that victim sustained a bullet wound in his shoulder and was out of danger.

ACCIDENT: A woman died in a road traffic accident on Sharea-i-Faisal on Wednesday evening.

Police said Rafiya Sultana, 35, was going with her husband Sajid Iqbal on their motorcycle when a jeep (BC-6309) hit them from the back near the FTC Building.

The victim was rushed to the JPMC, where she was pronounced dead by the MLO. Her husband was provided treatment. Police claimed to have arrested the driver of the jeep Zaman Khan and impounded the jeep.
