KARACHI, Oct 8: The World Amateur Snooker Championship which was to be held at Cairo (Egypt) from Oct 19 to Nov 2 has been canceled by International Billiards and Snooker Federation following allied forces air raids on Afghanistan.

He said it is for the first time in long history of world snooker when event will not be held.

Pakistan number one Khurram Hussain Agha and former world amateur champion and Pakistan number 4 Muhammad Yousuf were to represent Pakistan in the championship.

While unfortunate Khurram was at the brink to make his world debut, Yousuf was to appear in his record 12th competition.

Meanwhile, the six-nations Emirates International Snooker Championship scheduled to be held at Dubai from Oct 10 to 16 has been postponed after pull out of three countries, Pakistan Billiards Snooker Association (PBSA) announced Monday.

Joint Secretary PBSA Arif Taherbhoy said, according to a communication received from United Arab Emirates Billiards and Snooker Association by PBSA, the event has been postponed till the end of the year after Peoples Republic of China, Malaysia and Singapore due to prevailing conditions in the region.

Other countries to figure in the event included Egypt, India Pakistan and two UAE teams.

A five-member Pakistan squad comprising Naveen Perwani, Khurram Hussain Agha and Farhan Mirza, Yousuf Suleman (manager) and Chef de Mission Ali Asghar Valika were due to leave for Dubai event Monday.—APP
