JI threatens agitation if Afghanistan attacked
MULTAN, Oct 5: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) amir Qazi Husain Ahmed says his party will bring people on roads to protest against possible American strikes in Afghanistan.
Addressing an “Istehkame Pakistan and Afghanistan convention” in the presence of hundreds of JI activists here on Friday, he said the so-called superpower wanted to impose western civilization and culture on Muslim countries.
Criticizing the Musharraf government, Qazi said: “We cannot revolt against the army but we will not allow its present chief to remain in power.”
The JI leader criticized the PPP and MQM leaders for overtly supporting America in its ‘anti-Islam’ campaign. He regretted that those who talked about integrity were being labelled as ‘biased people’.
Addressing the convention, other JI leaders like Prof Munnawar Hasan, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, Liaquat Baloch and Abdul Rasheed Turabi also expressed identical views.
They said the country had been divided into Islamists and pro-America factions of society.
Later, hundreds of JI workers took out a procession which started from Jamiatul Aloom, Masoom Shah Road, and terminated at Husain Agahi Chowk near Ghanta Ghar.
Dawat-i-Islami moot: A three-day Dawat-i-Islami congregation started here on Friday after Asr prayers.
Thousands of faithfuls from in and outside the country are attending the religious gathering. A city of tents has been set up in the outskirts of Multan city in the Sher Shah area in the name of ‘Sehrai Madina’.
Sermons in various regional and international languages will be delivered during the three-day moot. A separate arrangement has been made in A’am Khas Bagh for women where sermons will be relayed through closed-circuit televisions.
District Nazim Shah Mehmood Qureshi visited Sehrai Madina along with district government officials to inspect security and other arrangements.
