PESHAWAR, Oct 3: A number of Afghan families sneaked into Pakistan through an unfrequented route in the Ghakhay area of Bajaur agency on Wednesday.

In a total defiance to government of Pakistan’s ban on the entry of Afghans even holding valid travel documents, a group of around 100 Afghan families entered Pakistan from a point closer to a heavily-guarded Pakistani checkpoint on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Ghakhay, in Bajaur agency.

“About 300 to 800 Afghans, mostly women and children, enter through this point every day,” said Gul Rehman, a local tribesman.

Talking to Dawn in the area from where Afghan families crossed over to this side of the border an illegal entrant said that it took over three hours the whole caravan to enter Bajaur agency by scaling a hill top.

Most of the Afghans entered Wednesday belonged to Kabul, Kunduz and Kunar provinces.
