`Illegal` goths in Gadap demolished

KARACHI, July 9 The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has launched a campaign against encroachers in the Gadap Town to remove all 'illegal goths' that have allegedly been established on government land.

A press release issued by the city government on Friday said that the anti-encroachment drive launched under the supervision of a district officer (revenue) continued till 10pm on Thursday and during the drive around 320 acres of government land were recovered after demolishing 13 illegal goths. The anti-encroachment team in the past few days has cleared more than 1,500 acres of government land from the occupation of encroachers, according to the press release.

On Thursday, the team razed to the ground the boundary wall of 13 illegal goths in Deh Nagan and Deh Jam Chakro. Encroachers recently claimed that these goths were many years old, causing the city government to conduct a detailed survey, which showed that encroachers had been busy establishing the goths by various names, the press release says, adding that the CDGK started the action against this practice.—APP
