MINGORA: Violence claims eight lives in Swat

MINGORA, Jan 13 Eight more persons were killed as spate of violence continued unabated in volatile Swat valley on Tuesday.

A civilian driver was killed when his truck, part of a military convoy, was blown up in a roadside explosion near Sambat area of Matta tehsil early on Tuesday. The ill-fated driver was identified as Naseem resident of Peshawar.

Militants had planted the device and it went off with a big bang when the army convoy was passing through the area.

The security forces retaliated and exchange of fire between the two sides continued for some time. However, militants managed to escape.

Four persons of a same family, including three children, were killed when a mortar shell hit their house in Qalagai area of Kabal. The names of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.

A girl identified as Rahima daughter of Bakht Zamin was killed and her two sisters - Shah Izat and Shah Zenat — were injured in artillery fire by the security forces in Janabad area of tehsil Charbagh.

The headless body of Ahmed Khan son of Mohammad was found on the jurisdiction of Rahimabad police station in Odigram.

Meanwhile, unidentified people shot dead Inzar Gul in Bodigram village. The motive behind the killing was not known.
