10 policemen injured in Timergara explosion
TIMERGARA, April 24 Ten policemen were injured when a suicide bomber tried to ram his explosives-laden vehicle into a police van on the Timergara bypass road on Saturday morning.
Official sources said a van of Swat police was going from the Balambat police lines to the Timergara district jail to take three sons of detained TNSM leader Maulana Sufi Mohammad and four other prisoners to an anti-terrorism court in Swat.
A suicide bomber tried to ram his explosives-filled car into the van when it was between the district jail and a girls' college. DSP (Investigations) Shakil Ahmed said the car exploded some five feet away from the police van.
The injured police personnel were identified as head constables Musawir Jan and Mohammad Sadiq, driver Mohammad Alam, SI Mohammad Azam, constables Gauhar, Shah Wazir, Sanaullah, Ameer Bahadar, Mohammad Ayub and Sher Ali.
Two of them, Musawir Jan and Mohammad Alam, were referred to Peshawar because of their critical condition.The rest were admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
DPO Mumtaz Zarin said that it was a suicide attack and the Swat police van was its target.
“Some body parts of the bomber and the car have been found from the place,” he said.
An official of the district jail said that seven prisoners, including three sons of Sufi Mohammad, were not taken to Swat after the incident.
A police official said they had found chaises number of the car used in the blast.
