Body formed to franchise different routes

RAWALPINDI, April 15: A four-member committee has been formed to conduct a survey of traffic load on Murree Road to decide the franchise of different routes.

The decision was taken in a meeting held here on Tuesday. The meeting was presided over by the provincial transport minister, Shamshad Ahmad Khan. District Nazim Tariq Kiani, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Hamid Ali Khan, SP (traffic) Sabir Ahmad, RTA Secretary Tariq Mehmood and Chairperson of a private transport company, Varan Tours, were also present.

The committee, which comprises the DCO (as the head), SP traffic, a representative of the RTA secretary and a representative of the transport company, will prepare its report within seven days.

The meeting also discussed the franchise of route Nos: 21 and 24 to Varan Tours.

The minister directed the transport officials not to grant routes to unfit vehicles in Rawalpindi. He said action would be taken against those officers, who provided fitness certificates to smoke-emitting vehicles.
