Call for research on Tasawwuf

DADU, Aug 2 Speakers at a literary conference held in Sehwan late on Sunday called for establishment of a Sufi university and research on Qalandar Lal Shahbaz and Sufism.

Sindh Minister for Culture Sassui Palijo said that Sindh was land of peace and gathering of large number of devotees at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine despite recent suicide bombings at Data Darbar had proved that people still believed in peace, love and unity.

She said that more funds were released for research on Sufism, adding that a guest house would be constructed in Sehwan for this purpose.

Dr Nawaz Ali Shauq said that Qalandar had met Bu Ali Qalandar and great saints Bahauddin Zakaria, Jalal Shah Bukhari and Baba Fareed Shakar Ganj were his close friends.

Badar Abro suggested that Sindh government should establish a Sufi University with its campuses in Bhit Shah, Sehwan, Jhok and Daraza.

Prof Qalandar Shah Lakyari said that Sindh had remained a land of spiritualism even before arrival of Islam and it became a centre of Tusawwuf afterwards.
