TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 25 The Gojra city police incorporated on Friday a cross-version case in the first information report (FIR) registered on Aug 1 against 129 Christians regarding communal violence in Gojra, police, Dawn learnt on Friday.

The cross-version case was brought under sections 7 of the Anti-Terror Act and 295-C, 380, 436, 324, 148, 149 and 342 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Gojra Bishop John Samuel, his two sons, Sheroon and Adnan, Gojra Tehsil Councilor Fanyas Maseeh and 125 other Christians. According to a police official, section 302 of the PPC was also included in the cross-version FIR after the death of Muhammad Asif, of Akbar Park, who was injured on Aug 1 along with 12 other Muslims when Christians had allegedly opened fire on a mob which had attacked Christian Colony following an alleged incident of the desecration of the Holy Quran.

Ghulam Murtaza, complainant of the cross-version case, said in his statement that he along with 12 other people, including Asif, was injured when Christians shot fires on them and later Asif died after remaining under treatment in Gojra and Faisalabad hospitals for more than 50 days. Police arrested three Christians in the case and further arrests were stopped after Lahore High Court Justice Iqbal Hameeduddin started a judicial probe into the violence.

The change in the FIR has attracted criticism from the Christians. Minority leader Atif Jamil Paggan condemned the action, saying that most of the people wanted for burning to death seven Christians were still at large. He criticised the induction of the cross-version case in the FIR and said police should have waited for the findings of the judicial tribunal before taking any legal action.

KILLED Gunmen killed a woman in Chak 670/11 GB near Pirmahal over property litigation on Thursday night, police said. Ghulam Farid and his two accomplices attacked Rani Bibi with axes and then shot her dead. Police were raiding for the arrest of the accused.

ROAD DEATH A motorcyclist died when a car hit him on Rajana-Pirmahal Road. Khalid Mahmood was traveling to Pirmahal from a village on his motorcycle when a car ran over him. He was rushed to Rajana Overseas Pakistanis Foundation hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The driver fled after the accident.
