Karachi police kills two `terrorists,` arrests 10

KARACHI Two terrorists were killed and four activists of banned outfit Jundullah, and six others, were arrested during an early morning shootout in Karachis Sohrab Goth area on Thursday.

Our police and paramilitary troops conducted a raid in the Sohrab Goth area on a tip-off about the presence of some militants there. The police were then fired upon, city police chief Waseem Ahmed said.

The house in Sohrab Goth was raided following a tip that the Iranian Consul General who was kidnapped from NWFP in November last year was being kept there.

We were getting reports for a long time that some jihadi elements were active in this area. Today, we raided the area and arrested many of them, Ahmed told Reuters.

The clash left two officers dead, while ten police officials, including SP Farooq Awan of Anti-Violent Cell, and an ASI were injured and shifted to the Aga Khan Hospital.

Police and paramilitary forces recovered weapons from the militant hideout, Ahmed said, without specifying what type.

We have certainly saved the city from a possible sabotage activity, Ahmed said.
