Karachi Command and Control Centre launched

KARACHI The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has launched a Command and Control Centre for improving the security and traffic situation in the city.

“This is a unique system of surveillance that has been installed for the first time by any district government in any of the city in Pakistan,” said the Nazim of Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal.

The nazim said that this system has a dedicated Wimax frequency of 3.9 Gigahertz with a fibre optic back up.

Mustafa Kamal pointed out that in the first phase two signal-free corridors, one 38 kilometres from Sharae Faisal to SITE and the other, from Sharae Faisal to Nagan Chowrangi will come under surveillance.

He said that the first phase had been completed within six months at the cost of 130 million rupees.

According to the nazim, the basic idea was completion and maintenance of the infrastructure of the City Government and addressing the problems of traffic jams as well as accumulation of water during the monsoon season.

He further stated that law enforcement agencies and the traffic police would also be given access to benefit from this surveillance system.

In the next phase, the Share Faisal (from airport up to Tower, via I.I. Chundrigar Road) will be covered. Later on, the M.A. Jinnah Road and the Nishtar Park will also be covered.
