100 kanals of land for OPF college announced

ISLAMABAD, April 10: Federal Minister for Information and Media Development Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Thursday announced hundred Kanals of land for the construction of a residential institute for the students of the OPF Boys College.

The minister made this announcement while speaking as chief guest at the annual prize distribution ceremony of the OPF Boys College on Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) campus here.

The minister said though unlimited funds were not available, he would do his best to provide all possible assistance to the college to overcome problems and improve the quality of education.

Congratulating the students and the teachers on their performances, Sheikh Rashid said: “I was a famous student but not a bright one, and if I had not been a politician, I would have been a teacher.” Ch Mohammad Akhtar, the college principal, presented the college crest to the chief guest. Sheikh Rashid also planted a sapling on the campus premises.

The minister gave away prizes to Omar Hashim, who got seven straight As in O’levels examination, and Ali Irtaza Kazmi and Ms Shazia Aslam Khan, who stood best student and best teacher of the year respectively. Usman Majeed was awarded gold medal for securing first position in the national academic education contest, while Umair Assim and Ahmed Shoaib were awarded shields for securing second and third position respectively in the contest.

Federal Secretary Information Anwar Mahmood, PBC Managing Director Tariq Imam, PTV MD Akhtar Waqar Azim and Principal OPF Girls College Rabia Noor were also present on the occasion.—Jamal Shahid
