GUJRAT, March 28: The government will take action against land grabbers and those who have unlicensed arms, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi pledged on Friday.
He said this while responding to the newsmen’s questions at the residence of Adnan Naseem Sethi with whom he condoled the death of his father, Naseem Sethi, a prominent industrialist.
The chief minister said the government was making efforts to maintain law and order in the province. Receiving complaints of land grabbing and display of arms, he said the intelligence agencies had been planning to deal with the law-breakers with an iron fist.
When a resident, Amir Butt, complained to the chief minister that an assistant sub-inspector had misbehaved with several families of Ferozeabad, he directed DPO Raja Munawwar to take punitive action against the accused. Allegedly to hush up the case, DIG Malik Iqbal, at this moment, informed the chief minister that the Gujrat police had arrested two proclaimed offenders following an encounter at Jalalpur Jattan on Thursday night.
Mr Elahi directed the DIG to take action against the accused police officer, and also clamp down on the land grabbers.
District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Husain, Punjab Education Minister Imran Masood and DCO Agha Nadeem accompanied the chief minister, who later laid the foundation stone of a road project near the small industrial estate.
SIALKOT: During his visit to Sialkot where he condoled the death of Mubashar, who was killed by kidnappers, Mr Elahi said the government was making efforts to make the country a crime-free society.
Mubashar was kidnapped for ransom by five members of a gang, which received Rs800,000 from his family. However, he was killed by the kidnappers.
The local police arrested the gang after three months. The chief minister announced Rs200,000 for the aggrieved family. He also announced that the provincial government would bear expenses of education up to BA for the children of the deceased.
He also announced Rs500,000 cash award for the police team, which arrested the killers of Mubashar. He asked the Punjab police DIG to prepare a promotion case of the policemen.
The chief minister also directed the Gujranwala range DIG to establish police post at Takhtpur village to eradicate crime in the area.
Besides, the chief minister announced plan to upgrade development of government middle school for girls. He also approved a special grant of Rs2.8 million for the construction of a road in the district.
