`Six directors of research fund sacked`

ISLAMABAD, July 7 Six directors of the Information and Communications Technology Research and Development (ICT R&D) Fund have been removed by Adviser on IT and Telecommunications Latif Khosa.

“Our notifications have been cancelled by the adviser,” Wahajus Siraj, one of the former directors, told Dawn on Wednesday.

“We have received a notification in this regard which is unfair on part of the IT ministry. The chairman of the board of directors of the ICT R&D Fund, who is also the adviser, has no legal power to remove us as directors of the fund set up under the Companies Act,” he claimed.

“We will seek justice from court,” Mr Siraj said.

Six directors each from the private and government sectors were on the board.

Financial support of Rs2 billion for National ICT R&D Fund Company was provided by the federal government which collects prescribed contributions from landline and mobile phone opera- tors licensed by the Pakis- tan Telecommunication Authority.

However, the adviser's public relations officer said Mr Khosa was not in the country and “there has been no development till today regarding removal of any director from the ICT R&D Fund”.
