THIS is apropos of Shahnaz Javed's letter, 'EOBI that does care' (March 4), wherein he has lavishly praised the EOBI performance and achievement.

I agree with his observations but he has not touched on one important point which relates to the immediate relief to dependents of and employee in the event of his sudden death during service.

It is the moral duty of the employer to provide a suitable job in his organisation to anyone of his family members as a gesture of goodwill towards the deceased's family so that they may not feel insecure and dejected over the loss of an earning member.

This will also serve as a tribute from the company to the deceased for the service rendered by him to the company.

In the EOBI organisation there are several cases where the dependant families of deceased employees have been denied employment.

The reason EOBI gives is that there is no provision in its manifesto to provide jobs to dependants of deceased families. But unlike in the EOBI, there is a provision in government, semi-government industries and commercial organisations of our country where dependants of deceased employees are provided suitable jobs.

The EOBI should incorporate a provision in its manifesto for providing jobs either on the quota system or on a contract basis to the dependants of its deceased employees, which will make them stand on their own feet instead of begging.
