GUJRANWALA, March 10: The local chamber of commerce and industry has opposed to the construction of multi-storey buildings near railway station here.

A chamber meeting on Monday said some influential people were trying to get state land around railway station on lease to build commercial plazas.

It said the government was spending millions of rupees on the beautification of railway station and developing ‘green belts’ in front of the building on the GT Road.

It demanded that the federal government and the railways minister should ban the construction of commercial plazas to preserve the beauty of railway station.

Potholes A city road constructed by the district government at a cost of Rs1.3 million has developed potholes within a week of its inauguration.

At a meeting held here on Monday with Garjakh union council Nazim Younas Iqbal in the chair, the UC members said the Graveyard Road was inaugurated only a week ago. But, it developed potholes following the recent rains, they added.

They demanded an inquiry against the contractor and the responsible district council officials.
