Sindh`s representatives in PAC
THE Public Accounts Committee is one of the most important committees of the National Assembly and its ultimate cause is to take action against persons accountable for corruption in public-sector organisations.
There are 20 members on this committee, including the chairman who has for the first time been nominated by virtue of being the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, as per the Charter of Democracy (CoD).
However, from Sindh there are four members who represent this committee.
They are Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar (Ind), Mrs Faryal Talpur (PPP), Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho (PPP) and Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi (MQM).
While it is a separate debate how two PPP representatives have been awarded membership of this committee, the unfortunate thing is that for the past several sessions only one member from Sindh, Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi, is attending the meeting regularly and the other three members are not.
It is a sad situation for the people of Sindh as previously this province has suffered on many platforms just because of the poor representations and again the same thing is happening in this case.
I request the members belonging to Sindh to attend PAC meetings regularly and show their sincerity, or else make room for others who can do something to serve Sindh.
Moreover, I would also request the PAC chairman, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, to take notice of this and bind all members to attend PAC meetings regularly.
