CNICs and expiry date for senior citizens
THE National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) issues computerised national identity cards (CNICs) on payment of fee under cumbersome process.
However, Nadra arbitrarily puts expiry date on the CNIC issued.
Pakistani citizens are required to again make payment of fee and undergo the cumbersome process.
2. Expiry dates indicated on CNICs discriminate against senior citizens who on attaining the age of 60 lose their identity.
Their CNICs are no more valid as per the expiry date indicated.
Nadra's working is arbitrary and there is no reason why the CNIC issued after payment of the requisite fee and a cumbersome procedure loses its validity.
The media manager of Nadra through a letter (May 7) had clarified that CNICs issued to citizens 65 years and older would remain valid despite the expiry date indicated on them.
Nadra is requested to treat all citizens 60 years and older as senior citizens and exempt them from the expiry of the CNICs issued to them.
