Raising national spirit in our youth
RECENTLY I had an opportunity to read some great books on the Quaid-i-Azam and Pakistan. I have come to realise that history presented in our textbooks is written in an obsolete and outdated manner.
Students generally find history boring and cumbersome as a subject as they have to memorise sundry dates and facts. It has been made a dry subject and serves no purpose in raising our national spirit and patriotism.
Our history syllabus needs to be modified and textbooks should be written with an entirely new and different approach.
They should actually make students relive the Pakistan movement, the true essence of 'why' and 'how' Pakistan was created, and the spirit with which our ancestors struggled at that time.
Special emphasis should be given to Jinnah. Incidents portraying his courage and upright character and his brilliant advocacy as he fought tooth and nail to win our freedom must be highlighted.
All of his extremely motivating and emotionally appealing speeches must also be included. How can we expect our youth to love our country if they are not really aware of the miraculous story of its creation?
Our media must also portray the great character of Jinnah and the story of the creation of Pakistan. This can be a powerful way to instill national spirit and love for this country in our youth.
