PAT leader booked

RAWALPINDI, May 6: The police booked a local leader of Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) on the charge of wall-chalking against the political system and threatening to stage a sit-in on May 11.

In addition, a report was registered with the Kalar Syedian police against two candidates from NA-50 and PP-1 for violating the election code of conduct.

Saifullah, the president of PAT Taxila chapter, was booked on the complaint of police inspector Ilyas Ahmed for wall-chalking along the HMC road.

“People have to fight against the corrupt system, there will be a sit-in on May 11 at Kala Chowk,” one of the slogans written on the wall read.

When inspector Ilyas was contacted, he said an FIR was registered against Saifullah on Sunday. However, it is a bailable offence, he added.

The Kotli Sattian police registered a report about the public rally of Qari Saifullah, a candidate of JUI-F for NA-50, and Mohammad Ishtiaq Abbasi, contesting election from PP-1, on behalf of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat.

The police said the public rally was illegal and a violation of loudspeaker act. The participants of the rally were carrying the flags of banned Sipah-i-Sahaba and chanting slogans against their political rival. —Staff Reporter
