Amir breezes into final, Farhan falls

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan number one Amir Atlas Khan produced a scintillating performance on Saturday to earn a berth in the final of the 17th Asian Individual Squash Championship.

Khan outwitted Malaysia's Muhamad Asyraf Azan in straight sets 11-5,11-5,11-6.

There was, however, no double joy for Pakistan as in the second semi-final the prodigious Farhan Mehboob's fairy-tale run finally came to an end.

He lost to Abdullah Al Mezayan of Kuwait 11-8,11-3,14-2.

In the women’s first semifinal, Low Wee Wern of Malaysia defeated Joey Chan of Hong Kong in a gruelling four-set encounter.

Wern lived up to her billing as she overcame her opponent 11-7, 4-11, 11-4, 11-9.

In the second semi-final Annie Au of Hong Kong came from behind to rout Delia Arnold of Malaysia.

After losing first set she registered victories in the next three sets. Both players displayed superb retrieving abilities but Annie kept her nerves to finish the fixture 9-11,11-6,12-10,11-9.

The finals will be played on Sunday.
