‘Poor pensioners: a plea’

THIS refers to the letter ‘Poor pensioners: a plea’ (April 10). The federal service tribunal has given the judgment regarding the restoration of the commuted portion of pension at the rate at which the pensioners are drawing the 50 per cent of the remaining pension.

This is applicable to only those who are 75 years of age, which hardly five per cent of us reach.

The finance division has written to controller-general of accounts, Islamabad, and military accountant-general, Rawalpindi, vide their letter number No. F13 (13), Reg.6/2011 dated Jan 21, 2013, to take necessary action.

The Supreme Court has also upheld the decision of the service tribunal and the review petition by the finance division was also dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The finance division is wastefully trying to invoke Article184 (3) of the constitution for revisiting the Supreme Court decision.

If that is the case, then under which article of the constitution the outgoing government has given lifetime fabulous perks to outgoing speakers and ministers of the assemblies

The controller-general of accounts has already given the benefit to a few selected pensioners of 75 years of age who are just a few of us left and are being denied the benefit. It hardly causes any burden on the exchequer.
