PPP aspirant survives attack, aide killed

MUZAFFARGARH, April 18: Pakistan People’s Party candidate for PP-254 Mehr Irshad Sial was injured and one of his supporters died when unidentified attackers opened fire on his vehicle on Muzaffargarh-Mianwali road on Thursday.

Irshad’s brother, Abu Bakr Sial, told Dawn the PPP candidate was returning home from Rangpur after electioneering when some unidentified people sprayed bullets on his vehicle. Irshad received minor injuries in the attack and was being treated at the local DHQ hospital, he said.

He said Irshad’s supporter Makhdum Sajid, who was accompanying him, also received bullets and died on the spot.

Irshad Sial, who had won election on a PPP ticket in 2008 for the first time, is contesting against PML-N’s Hammad Tippu and PTI’s Hayee Dasti.
