7,000kg hash seized

RAHIM YAR KHAN, April 17: Police claim to have recovered hashish worth Rs350 million from a trailer on the National Highway near Sanjarpur, some 45 kilometres from here, on Wednesday.

District Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik told a press conference here on Wednesday that on a tip-off a police party headed by Investigation SP Tanveer Tonio intercepted a trailer (1658 –LSE).

On thoroughly searching the trailer that was apparently carrying rice, the police recovered 7,000kg of export quality hashish concealed in various parts of the vehicle.

The DPO said the narcotic worth Rs350 million was being transported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Karachi from where it was to be smuggled abroad. The police have arrested trailer driver Nawab Sher and helpers Faisal Khan and Muhammad Asif.

The Punjab IG has announced special prizes and certificates for the police party that recovered the drug.

The DPO also announced Rs0.5 million reward for the police team.
