Student’s death sparks protest

RAWALPINDI, April 12: A student’s murder sparked protest by his university fellows who blocked Benazir Bhutto Road leaving traffic stranded for several hours on Friday.

The members of the Kashmir Students Movement placed the body of the deceased on the road and demanded arrest of the killers.

The protesters kept the road blocked after the sunset creating problems for the commuters. The traffic was diverted to Rawal Road.

Moeez Akhtar, 24, who was a student of a private university and residing in a hostel, was shot and injured allegedly by two other students over a petty issue in Dhoke Munshi late on Thursday night.

The injured was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) where he died on Friday morning.

The angry students burnt tyres, pelted moving vehicles with stones and staged a sit-in that continued for more than three hours.

However, the protesters were dispersed after the senior police officials assured them that the culprits would soon be arrested.
