LAKKI MARWAT, March 26: Election-related activities have gained momentum in the district as former lawmakers and key politicians of the area secured nomination papers to contest the upcoming elections.
A tough contest is expected between Saifullah brothers and JUI-F candidates for one national and three provincial assembly seats in the district.
According to sources, local JUI-F leaders have convinced the party’s central chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, to confront PML-Likeminded chairman Salim Saifullah Khan from the local National Assembly constituency.
Mr Salim has already got nomination papers from the office of respective returning officer for NA-27, while JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is expected to visit the district for the purpose shortly.
Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf central executive council’s member Khan Bahadar Marwat also obtained nomination papers for the elections.
For PK-74 (Lakki-I), PPP provincial president Anwar Saifullah Khan and former MPAs Naseer Mohammad Khan Maidadkhel and Zafrullah Khan received papers from the office of the relevant returning officer.
Former tehsil nazim Naurang Anwar Hayat Khan, Naseer Kamal, son of former provincial minister Anwar Kamal Khan (late), Mufti Ziaullah and other candidates also got papers to contest elections on a provincial assembly seat.
Anwar Saifullah Khan had won elections on PK-74 as an independent candidate in 2008. Mr Anwar, his brother Humayun Saifullah Khan (former MNA) and nephews Asad Saifullah Khan and Jehangir Saifullah Khan also obtained nomination papers to contest elections for PK-75 (Lakki-II).
Former MPA Malik Imran, his brother Malik Noor Saleem, former MNA Ghulamuddin Jabukhel and PTI leader Khan Bahadar are the likely candidates for PK-75 as they had got nomination papers.
Former MPA Munawar Khan of JUI-F and Akhtar Munir Marwat of PML-N are considered to strong candidates for PK-76 (Lakki-III), which consists of Lakki city and adjacent rural areas.
Former district nazim Qudratullah Khan, ex-city nazims Ishfaq Ahmad Khan Minakhel and Dr Khalid Latif Khan Minakhel , JUI-S district chief Maulana Habibullah Haqqani, JUI-F’s Maulana Ameer Nawaz Khan and his son, Hafiz Asif Salim, have also obtained nomination papers for the same provincial assembly constituency.
