KARACHI, March 21: A sessions court on Thursday sentenced seven illegal immigrants from Afghanistan to two months in prison after they entered a guilty plea for their unlawful stay in Pakistan.

Syed Habib Shah, Mamoor, Asmatullah, Yaqoob, Mohammad Jalil, Hamidullah and Mohammad Zahir voluntarily pleaded guilt before the trial court for unlawfully entering and staying here.

The anti-human trafficking circle (AHTC) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the suspects last month in district west zone because they failed to produce required documents to justify their stay.

The additional district and sessions judge (west), Irfan Ahmed Meo, who was conducting the trial, also extended the benefit of Section 382-B (period of detention to be considered while awarding sentence of imprisonment) of the criminal procedure code to all the convicts and remanded them back to prison along with conviction warrants to serve out the remainder of their sentence.

The court also directed the jail authorities to make necessary arrangements through the home department for deportation of the convicts after completion of their sentences.

A case was registered against them under the Foreigners’ Act at the FIA police station.
