Depoliticising the bureaucracy

THE bureaucracy of Punjab, as well as of other provinces, has been changed. It was necessary to do so in order to hold free and fair election.

But I have a question: will the newly-appointed bureaucrats and police officers not have any political affiliations with any political party? They would because all of us know that in Pakistan no bureaucrat or police officer can do his job without the backing of politicians, due to strong involvement of politicians in their matters.

Politicians have a strong influence in the bureaucracy, which is not a good thing. The solution is to depoliticise the bureaucracy. We should keep politicians away from bureaucrats so that they can work efficiently.

Reshuffling is an option and not a solution, so we should go for a solution rather than an option.
