ECP urged to take notice of code violations

LAHORE, April 27: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has written a letter to the Election Commission, urging it to take notice of the code of conduct violation by PML-N candidates in the provincial capital.

“PML-N candidates in NA-124 are openly carrying weapons in the election campaign thus intimidating voters and supporters of other parties,” PPP Secretary-General Saradr Latif Khosa says in the letter.

He says the police have tried to cover up this blatant incident of violence because they continue to support PML-N candidates.

In NA-119, the car of Ayesha Ahad Malik was smashed while on campaign by the ‘henchmen’ of a PML-N candidate. The media footage of which is available.

“Despite an application for the registration of a case, neither an FIR has been registered nor any culprit arrested. The PML-N candidate of the top elite had openly proclaimed if Ayesha Ahad ever ventured to campaign, she would be eliminated and smashing of the car was a trailer to be followed by attacks on her if she did not desist,” the letter says.

The PPP has requested the ECP to take action, including transfer of the police officials and local administration loyal to the Sharifs who are covertly or overtly supporting PML-N candidates and condoning the acts of violence.
