Empowering women through entrepreneurship

An exhibit organized by Elan Women’s Social Club, was held at Carlton Hotel here in Karachi on Saturday, March 2, 2013.

Elan Women’s Social Club is a networking group for the women entrepreneurs who regularly host interactive networking sessions in order to promote each other’s work and mutually benefit from one another. They also host workshops and training programs for its members.

So far, they have been successful in hosting 9 events, one every month since its inauguration. These meet-ups have been a key element in bringing forth joint ventures, business deals and an increase in clientele.

Showcasing numerous talents under a single roof, the event was titled ‘Women of  Talent Festival’ with economical exhibits varying from handmade accessories, apparel, shoes and home accessories. In addition, bakery items, photo booths and cosmetic treatment stalls were also set up.

The majority of participants put their own work on display where as some like 'Sughar Women' were promoting ethnic handwork done by women in villages whom they paid hourly wages to.

Another such stall encouraging nobility belonged to a young girl named Maira who displayed handmade items made by old women from an old home trust called Bint-e-Fatima. This stall consisted of various items including handmade dolls, ashtrays, jewellery and other things made out of clay and paint.

Overall the event was a success with large number of eager visitors who attended the event making a fair amount of sales for the entrepreneurs.
