Karachi case: SC rejects ECP's review petition

KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected on Wednesday a review petition filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the electoral delimitation of Karachi's constituencies, DawnNews reported.

A larger bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali resumed the hearing of the Karachi law and order suo motu implementation case at the apex court’s Karachi registry.

During the hearing Justice Khilji Arif Hussain giving his remarks said that it was the Election Commissions responsibility to ensure that transparent elections were conducted.

The court remarked that the Secretary Election Commission and Chief Secretary ofSindh had already assured of implementation of the courts directives

The court withdrew its show-cause notice issued to Sindh's Inspector General Police (IGP) Fayyaz Leghari after he submitted a written apology in court.

The IGP in his reply assured the bench all police officers involved in illegal activities would be suspended and action would be taken against them.
